There are a lot of WordPress plugins out there allowing you to do just about anything you could ever want to do with your blog. Some of them are crucial to run your blog, some of them make it a little more snazzy, and some of them are simply fluff.  However it’s the ones that are an integral part of your blogging process that you need to make sure you’re using. Here are five WordPress plugins that will make your blogging experience a whole lot better:

1.      Akismet

This handy little plugin comes with your WordPress site and all you need to do is register and get a product key for it to install it on your blog. It is the premier spam-blocking plugin that blocks not only spam comments but also spam trackbacks. The plugin will go through and filter out any spam comments that make their way over to your site and you decide if you want to review them or simply automatically delete them.

2.      Google Webmaster Tools

Since optimization is one of the key focuses of serious bloggers and Google is the biggest search engine, it makes sense to download a plugin that will help to make your site be more Google-friendly, right? This plugin will help you to make your site more SEO friendly and provide you with plenty of pertinent information about your site.

3.      Google XML Sitemaps

This plugin is pretty helpful because it helps the search engines find and index your site more efficiently. Every time you post something new the search engines will be notified, thus increasing your chances of visibility.

4.      Google Analytics

Are you seeing a trend here? You should be if you aren’t. Google has some great plugins! Google Analytics allows you to see all of your site stats, top searches, your top referrers, how you stack up against competitors in your niche, etc. You are given the option of using the default settings or customizing them to fit what you want to see out of your blog.

 5.      Broken Link Checker

Having solid links in your posts is important when you’re trying to maximize your SEO efforts, so having Broken Link Checker to ensure that all of your links are in good working condition is essential. This takes all the guess work out of hoping that everything is in order and notifies you if and when a link is broken.

There are an endless number of plugins that will help you make your WordPress blog better, but these five are essential to maximizing your blogging efforts. Once you have the basics down, you can then move on to the fun plugins that add some pizazz to your blog – but every good blog needs a good foundation and these will get you there!
